Eco friendly furnishing

Na heel wat verhuizingen het afgelopen jaar weet ik sowieso het één en ander van Funda, gecombineerd met een google streetview obsessie, makelaars en hypotheken. En heb ik de manier gevonden om heel snel verhuisdozen te vouwen. De manier is agressief inmiddels en je knalt het er allemaal in want de eerste dagen ben je toch alleen maar op zoek naar schoon ondergoed hoe goed je het ook organiseert.
Dit huis -en ik hoop voorlopig ons eindstation- is vrij klein dus het was een uitdaging om alles weg te zetten aangezien we niet één kamer tot: “ga hier niet naar binnen daar word je moedeloos van”- kamer te kunnen bombaderen. Op wat klusjes na zoals de kelder aanpakken ( ieuw vocht en schimmel), lekkende dakgoot en oke echt een grote tuin zijn we nu gesetteld. Er beginnen nu weer weekenden te komen waarin we ook daadwerkelijk een beetje een weekend gevoel hebben en we kijken al uit naar de schoolvakanties.
Naast het feit dat je een beetje naar binnen kunt kijken en ik met alle liefde kan melden dat het gebied Gaasterland in Friesland echt heel mooi is en dat wonen aan het bos ondanks extra spinnen en modder heel fijn is- wil ik ook wat tips delen om je interieur duurzaam in te richten. Niet alles is helemaal eco friendly maar we hebben ons best gedaan om er wel rekening mee te houden.
Beste eco friendly interieur tips:
Ten eerste hebben we gekozen voor marmoleum. Het is heel duur, echt heel duur, om te huilen zo duur maar wat is het ook onwijs mooi en praktisch! We hadden de mazzel dat een bedrijf hier in de buurt dit nog voor onze verhuizing kon leggen en ook de trap met marmoleum kon bekleden. Het maakt het huis af, het was gelijk meer eigen en met huisdieren echt een must. Ook met de latere verbouwing kwam aardig wat troep en stof binnen maar je maakt alles snel schoon. Marmoleum is duurzaam omdat het in Nederland wordt geproduceerd, gemaakt wordt van lijnzaad en het wordt 100 % Co2 neutraal geproduceerd. Ik ben er echt heel blij mee al wenste ik wel dat ik een interieurblogger was geworden ;)
In het huis waar we nu wonen wilden we echt alles schilderen en ons budget was al aardig op maar bij de eerste verhuizing ( drie in een jaar, mijn biografie zal heten:' “gillend gek in de verhuiswagen”) hoefden er alleen maar een paar muren in de keuken en kozen we voor Fairf. Dit merk verf is geheel op waterbasis en de binder is gemaakt van planten ipv aardolie. De kleuren waren heel mooi, dekte goed en het stonk niet. Voor een volgende verfbeurt kiezen we zeker weer voor dit merk.
We hebben een prachtige kledingkast op maat laten maken door Tim Vinke. Ik ken zijn vriendin Anne een tijdje al en ben groot fan van dochterjte Nora,omdat zij alleen alles met een tutu kan stijlen en ik vind zijn werk echt te gek. Aangezien dit huis in de jaren ‘30 is gebouwd en werkelijk alles scheef is wisten we dat we een goede timmerman nodig hadden die de kast kon maken en ontwerpen. Deze kast is echt een Pinterest droom die uitkomt.
Verder hadden we voor de eerste verhuizing een peperdure HAY eettafel gekocht maar die past met geen mogelijkheid in ons piepkleine eetkamer. Tijdens een shoot voor Sustainer homes hadden we het over eet tafels en besloten Kim (van Sustainer Homes) en ik van tafel te ruilen. Zij haalden een hele leuke van Ikea en zij kreeg onze HAY tafel. Een ophaaldienst haalde de tafel bij ons thuis op en bracht hem de volgende dag in Groningen. Was echt heel leuk en ik ben nog steeds heel blij met mijn nieuwe tafel.
Ook kijk ik veel op Instagram voor veel tweedehands moois. De accounts: Wij zijn Kees, Cuub photo, Sloppop, Mamoesjka en Omstebeurt houden regelmatig sales op hun account waar je de mooiste tweedehands spullen voor een leuke prijs kunt kopen. Deze accounts zijn ook allemaal heel divers van smaak.
En natuurlijk kun je altijd kijken bij de kringloopwinkel, marktplaats of misschien is het leuk om een keer een ruil party te houden en kun je zo een nieuwe vondst scoren die niet milieubelastend is.
En hoe nou je huis milieuvriendelijker schoon? Of kun je sowieso wel wat tips gebruiken voor wat meer liefde voor het milieu zonder dat het heel duur is.
PS. Ik meld wel heel vrolijk dat we klaar zijn maar momenteel zijn de buitenschilders aan het werk en weet ik meer dan mij lief is over regenputten.

After having moved house so many times over the past year, I am now quite familiar with the Dutch real estate website Funda, as well as having a solid google street view obsession, real estate agents and mortgages. I have also figured out the best way to quickly fold moving boxes! The technique is rather aggressive at this point: you simply throw a bunch of stuff in it, because regardless of how good your organising skills are, you’ll mostly be searching around for clean underwear the first couple of days anyway.
This house, which I hope is our final destination at least for a while, is quite small, so it was quite a challenge to unpack everything and put it all away, because we don’t have a single room that we can dedicate to being our “I’m never going in there ever again because it’s hopeless”-room. Safe for a couple of odd jobs such as fixing up the basement (ew, damp and mould), a leaky gutter, and our (I’ll admit large!) garden, we’re now completely settled. And now we finally have weekends coming up that will actually feel like weekends, and we’re already looking forward to the school holidays that are coming up.
Aside from the fact that you look can only look into our living room a little bit, and that I can honestly say that Gaasterland in Friesland is truly very beautiful, and that we’re living right next to the woods, which is wonderful even if you take the extra spiders and dirt into account – I do also want to share a couple of tips for furnishing your home in a way that is more environmentally friendly. Not everything is completely eco-friendly, but we have tried our best.
The Best Eco-Friendly Furnishing Tips:
Firstly, we have opted for marmoleum flooring. This is expensive. Like, really expensive. So expensive you’ll cry, but it’s also gorgeous and practical! We were lucky that a company near us could place the flooring before we moved in, and that we could cover the stairs with it as well. It really finishes off the house. Right away it felt more like our home, and when you have pets, it really is a must. It also came in handy during the renovation work, because even though there was lots of rubbish and dust coming it, it was so easy to clean! Marmoleum is sustainable, because it is produced in The Netherlands – so transport is limited – it is made from line seed, and no CO2 is emitted during production. I am really happy with it, and seeing it I wish I had decided to become an interior design blogger instead of a food blogger ;)
When moving into this house, we wanted to paint everything, but our budget was really starting to run out. During our first moving attempt (three in a year – I think I’ll call my biography “Crazy Screaming Bitch in a Moving Van”) we only had to paint a couple of walls in the kitchen, for which we opted for Fairf. This brand produces paint on a water basis, and the binder is made of plants instead of petroleum. The colours were really nice, it worked well, and didn’t smell! If we ever have any other painting jobs to do, we’ll definitely use this paint again.
We had a fitted wardrobe made by Tim Vinke. I have known his girlfriend Anne for quite a while and I’m a big fan of their little daughter, Nora, because she can style anything with a tutu. Not to mention that I love Tim’s work. Seeing as this house was build in the 1930 s, and everything is at odd angles, we knew we needed a good carpenter who could both design and build a new wardrobe for us. The end result is truly a Pinterest dream come true!
Other than that, we had already bought a really expensive HAY dining table for our first move, but sadly it didn’t fit in our tiny dining room, no matter how hard we tried. During a photoshoot for Sustainer Homes, we had been discussing dining tables, and Kim (from Sustainer Homes) and I made a deal to trade dining tables! She got us a really nice one from Ikea, and I gave her our HAY table. A pick-up service came to pick up our table and delivered it the next day in Groningen. It was great fun and I’m still incredibly happy with my new dining table.
I also searched on Instagram for second-hand treasures. Accounts like: “Wij zijn Kees”, “Cuub Photo”, “Sloppop”, “Mamoesjka” and “Omsterbeurt”, have sales regularly, so you can find the great second-hand stuff on there for a great price! The accounts I named are also very diverse in style, so you’re bound to find something.
And of course, you can always have a look at your local second-hand store, or online, or perhaps it’s a nice idea to organise a rading-party, so you can score your next best find in a way that isn’t taxing on the environment.
