Make your own margarine

Moos Food Bandits

“Please do not feed the fears”

Onze eerste ig tv staat online.

Make your own plantbased butter

Our first ever IG tv is now online! We have been wanting to make videos like this for a while, but every time we didn’t like what we came up with, until we recently looked back at some of our earliest pictures and were actually pleasantly surprised with how much we liked our “eh, it’ll do” pictures. The video is definitely not perfect, but it is authentic, because Johann is talking with Moos during it all, or makes a funny mistake, while also telling you in less than two minutes how to make your own margarine at home with some lecithin you can find in mustard powder. And then we end it by making fun of geography. In short, it’s the ultimate Food Bandits video: food and nerdy chemistry talk.

Below you will find the recipe to make some quick margarine without too much hassle. Oh, and not feeling like watching the video, while really wanting to know more about lecithin and additives more generally? Please, click here to read our blogpost in which we explain all about what margarine actually does and how it is made.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • ¼ tsp mustard powder

  • 1 tsp carrot juice

  • A few drops of lemon juice

  • Spices and salt for the taste.

Fill a large bowl with ice water or ice cubes. In a separate bowl on top of this one, pour in the olive oil as well as the mustard powder, carrot juice, and lemon juice. Mix this thoroughly until all the lumps have been whisked out. Then, add in the melted coconut oil, and stir until it has the right thickness. Finally, you can add some sea salt or parsley.
